Guide to Warewashing & Janitorial Equipment
Energy Considerations
Warewashing is one of the largest energy and water consumers in a commercial
kitchen — and utility costs add up quickly. Selecting an ENERGY STAR® certified
unit can cut operating costs significantly over the machine’s life.
Ask your RED Dealer to help you compare models based on:
Water consumption (litres per rack or per hour)
Electricity usage (kWh/cycle)
Rinse water temperature requirements
Heat recovery or condensate handling features
A high-efficiency high-temp unit may have a higher upfront cost, but a built-
in booster heater or heat-recovery condenser may save hundreds of dollars
annually in energy and ventilation costs. Smaller kitchens with limited electrical
infrastructure may benefit from low-temp machines, which use chemical
sanitizers and have lower energy draw — ideal for retrofits or locations with
power limitations.
Brand & Warranty
Not all warewashers are created equal — and not all brands offer the same level
of support, durability, or local parts availability. And, no, a residential unit will not
work in a commercial kitchen…ever.
When selecting equipment, consider:
Which brands have a proven track record in commercial kitchens?
What type of warranty coverage is included (parts, labour, onsite service)?
Are replacement parts available locally, or will you be waiting weeks for
international shipments?
How responsive is the manufacturer’s service network in your region?
At RED Canada, we work with RED Approved Suppliers whose products meet
rigorous standards for performance, serviceability, and long-term value. Your
local RED Dealer can guide you toward brands with outstanding reputations in
the Canadian foodservice market.
