Back bar units, distinguished by their taller stature and interior lighting, serve as attractive displays for
showcasing drinks typically found at the bar both on top and inside the coolers when outfitted with glass
doors. While commonly referred to as “back bar coolers,” operators have the flexibility to place these
units in various locations within the bar. They typically stand at a height of 37 inches when positioned
on the floor or can be elevated on legs if necessary. In addition, back bars range from 24 to 108 inches
in length, with standard sized units being the most economical. Depths vary from the standard 27 ½
inches to narrower options at 24 inches. While doors are standard and come in either solid or glass
door options, operators have the option to include drawers or combinations of drawers and doors for
specialty solutions for such as wine chillers.
Many manufacturers sell accessories for bottle glides or upgrades to drawers for wine bottles but the
vast majority of these are flat shelves and solid doors. While the glass door is nice to showcase your
brands, it does not hide the extra garnish or juices ready and waiting for that exciting new cocktail on
your menu. A combination of doors or even two units can lend itself well to showcasing your brands
but keeping the esthetic when guests are looking over the bar.
Some manufacturers offer pass-thru units as well that can be filled in the back from a walk-in cooler or
another storage space. This is ideal for very busy locations and those that want easy first-in, first-out
for their products.
