Canada's Definitive Commercial Refrigeration, Ice & Beverage Equipment Buying Guide

Among the most popular commercial refrigerators available today is the 2-door slider models. Sliding

doors and swinging doors are both made to display food or beverage packages. One of the main

advantages of the slider is that it requires less space in your establishment as there is no need to make

space for the doors to swing open. For instance, a sliding door unit meets your needs if you require

refrigeration to display products in a busy corridor that does not have much clearance.

The problem with sliding doors is that they do not achieve the full seal of a swing door with a magnetic

gasket. This is the primary reason why sliding door freezer merchandisers are not available in the

market. To keep the door sliding smoothly, the sliding channel must be maintained. Sliding door units

frequently use a plastic channel. Ensuring the channel is clean and damage free will make for a more

efficient unit.

In merchandisers, lighting is crucial to presenting the product in the best possible light. Merchandisers

are meant to be located in retail or grab-and-go scenarios to grab the consumer’s attention and increase

the size of the sale. LED lighting has replaced T-22 and other fluorescent lighting in the majority of

commercial foodservice merchandisers available today. LED technology has advanced significantly and

become more affordable, which has increased manufacturers’ interest in using it in their engineering.

Furthermore, LEDs are more enticing because they are far more economical for operators in terms of

utility expenses. They last far longer than typical fluorescent lights, which again makes them appealing

for their cost-effectiveness. They also emit less heat, so the unit has to work less to maintain the

temperature in the necessary range.

Many manufacturers offer options such as bottle glides and pricing tags for their merchandisers. True

Manufacturing offers their True Flex Pac® | System that provides a place for information and pricing on

each shelf.

Bottle glides in back bars and merchandisers are often not standard and require purchasing at the time

of ordering or after installation of the unit depending on your needs.
