Guide to Warewashing & Janitorial Equipment
Water Softeners, Filtration &
Chemical Delivery Systems —
Supporting Clean Results
A commercial dishmachine can only perform as well as the water and chemicals it’s supplied
with. In regions like Canada — where water hardness varies significantly between provinces
— untreated water and imprecise chemical dosing can lead to poor sanitation, damaged
equipment, and failed inspections. Investing in the right water softening, filtration, and
detergent systems is essential to maximize cleaning performance and ROI.
Water Softeners — Defending
Against Hard Water Damage
Hard water contains high levels of calcium
and magnesium, which form mineral deposits
(scale) when heated. This scale builds up
on spray arms, heating elements, and inside
booster heaters — drastically reducing
cleaning efficiency and equipment lifespan.
A water softener replaces these minerals
with sodium or potassium ions through ion
exchange, preventing scale buildup. This will
improve wash & rinse effectiveness, prevent
glassware and film build up and reduce the
frequency of descaling & maintenance.
Water Filtration — Cleaner
Inputs for Cleaner Outputs
Even if water is soft, it can still contain sediment,
chlorine, rust, or organic contaminants. These
particulates damage pumps, clog jets, and impair
chemical edectiveness.
Inline filtration systems remove these impurities,
improving overall wash quality and protecting
both the dishmachine and chemical injectors.
Bar glass washers and municipalities with
high chlorine or rust would typically need inline
filtration which can be sediment filters, carbon
filters and even RO (Reverse Osmosis) Systems
for high-end options.
Chemical Delivery Systems —
Precision for Sanitation &
Savings
Proper chemical dosing is crucial for:
• Effective grease and protein removal
• Spot-free rinsing
• Meeting NSF/Health Canada
sanitation standards
Modern machines come with integrated
or external chemical pumps that deliver
detergent, rinse aid, and sanitizer in precise
amounts based on the cycle and water
flow. RED Dealers often work directly
with chemical providers who install
and maintain these systems, ensuring
consistent results while helping you avoid
overdosing — which wastes product and
risks residue on wares.
